Well, to use it as a finishing hone it will fit at the very end of your progression, just before stropping. That's by definition
You would put some water or lather on it and then do something like 10 to 50 very light strokes.
Yeah I know, but I figured I may as well go for the low hanging fruit since nobody else did

Thanked: 16Maybe this isn't the best place to post this, but here goes. I'm thinking of buying a coticule and experimenting with it as a finishing hone. Is it going to be significantly better than a Shapton 16? or a Naniwa 12K followed by CroOx and leather?

Me thinks this might be oh so true... I also have one of the older 8x3 inch ones and it works great as a finisher...
I had a Vintage 6x2 stamped "Extra Extra Fine" for awhile, that was just the same zip zip done... Honestly the thought of using these in the bevel setting mode as so many do now, seems a huge waste of a good stone...
But this also happened with Nortons 3 years ago when the 1k & 4k went from Made in the USA to made in Mexico, now the 4k is made in Italy and the quality seems to be coming up again...Last edited by gssixgun; 07-28-2010 at 02:43 AM.

Not every single Coticule will do the finishing job.
Their quality differ .
you could put them approximately between 4k-8-10k level.
now which one you have ?
that is the question Mark.
if you have finest one you can use it as a finishing stone. if you have 4k level one you are in deep trouble.
