    Default Honed my first razor

I just got my first set of hones in today.
    I got a 220/1k and 4k/8k girt Norton and 10k Naniwa stones.
With my TI 5/8 I started with a few passes on the 1k, moved to 4k, 8k, 10k doing about 10 passes each.

When I started I could hardly cut arm hair with my razor, now I can very easily and smoothly remove arm hair leaving it BBS there.
Going to shave with it tonight, will let you know how it goes.

    Trevorxgage,

Thank you for sharing. Looking forward to your experience with the shaving itself.

    Cheers,

Just shaved with my newly honed razor, and wow.
Smoothest, closest shave yet. Totally BBS, no razor burn, and one small nick.
It's a little easier to cut myself now, haha.

Now I'm looking forward to seeing if I can find some older razors that need some work and seeing what I can do.

    Welcome....
Decent set of hones and ten passes is a good place to start.

The pyramid method is an ace in the hole should you need it.
You should be able to find info in the Wiki on it. If you cannot
find it one of us will post a link should you ask.

Practicing with older razors is what I did and still do. Now I feel enough confidence to work with new ones as well. It adds much pleasure to the process when you've done the honing from start to finish yourself. Look for full bladed razors with minimal hone wear and no visible chips in the edge. Scales that are crack free and undamaged and of course, no cell rot symptoms.

To avoid nicks and cuts read my sig line below.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

    Trevorgage,

Thank you for your post. It certainly brings back memories; mostly about the moment (many years ago , Christ, am i THAT old?) that i tried shaving with a straight.... and that turned out to be a disaster.
Basically, i didn't know nothing about straight razors (and shaving with 'em, for that matter) so from there on i stayed with a DE.

I STILL know nothing about all the things concerning, but at least i have this forum AND the members within to learn.
This time though, i am determined to make this a succes; not to mention the fact that i already have two old razors (in need of work for yet another life) but that will work out as well.

Thank you for your posting; it gives an old man hope.

    Regards,

    Razorback

Congrats on your success and welcome to the world of honing straight razors! Hope you enjoy the journey as much as I do.
