Update, for me this was unchartered territory while I am comfortable touching up an edge that was all I ever done,

As noted the 4k is my most coarse stone, I also have chinese 12k(?) a kanayama, a yellow coticle and a dmt eee extra fine

I followed Lynn's advice above but only after repeatedly watching his video's here http://straightrazorpalace.com/honin...tml#post426773 as I had never done cirlces before only x strokes.

I soaked my Norton 4k/8k then lapped both sides then created a slurry on the 4k and did as instructed on the 4k then moving to the 8k and testing on my arm, the nicks are gone and so is a large patch of arm hair , I plan on shave testing them before moving to a finer stone if necessary.

Thanks again to all for the suggestions and especially Lynn for the videos.

That is known as razor mange and it can spread fast if you ain't careful. Good luck with the shave.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
