Default Touching up Str8 honed with taped spine?!?

First off, How do after a long time of my being off the SRP site!!

I was trying to touch up one of my Str8's with a barber hone, not having much luck , and then one heck of a bloody thought came to me[happens sometimes, not often though], if the honemiester that put the edge on a Str8 used one or two layers of PVC tape when setting the bevel and polishing up the blade, would that naturaly mean that the geometry of the bevel need you to tape the spine when useing a barber hone?? Otherwise it would seem to this humble reporter that the edge would not contact the hone while X-stroking for touchups. And conversely, when you recieve your razor back from the person who hones it up, if the spine is taped, shouldn't there include a note saying touch ups should be done with the spine taped? Or am I just making another mound out of a molehill?? Inquiring minds want to know[mine!]

Also, as an aside, did our most vererable Sense' Lynn A. Move from Medina OH, permenantly? Thought I saw a different address on one of his reply's to someones thread.

I thank you all for your time with my ramblings, take your time and have a great day started with a nice slow wet shave, of course!!

At your service, tinkersd of SRP.

if your blade taped while honing when you use barber hone you must use exact amount tape. Some people will tape blade always some wont etc. If you know who honed your blade just contact person tell your razor name and ask about it.usually honing person is not hones just 1 blade.people are different some will say dont use tape others opposite. That is why wouldnt be fair just blame honer why he didnt tell you he taped or not spine of the blade. In the other hand if there is only1 or2 layers of tape while you strop you dont have to tape

Default Thank you for your answer!!

I do appreciate your input bud, and I think you right about not haveing to worry about stropping if a honed blade was tapped or not. But I wasn't trying to copmplain about sending out Str8's to this honemiester or that one, just trying to work through all the varios S.N.F.U.'s that can hinder and confuse both the novice[like myself] and somtimes the experianced wet shaver. I think the last blade I had trouble with was my fault in that I never thought to touch up the edge after it became a bit of a puller while shaving. Finally doped it out[dope being the OPERATIVE word] and taped the edge for much more satisfactory results, just some more of the ramblings of an ageing and decrepid citizen.

Thank you all for always being there to bounce my
ideas and thoughts off of, tinkersd of SRP.

Yes, if a honemeister uses a tape they will tell you. Otherwise they will loose their honemeister certification and have to start from being a newbie all over again.
On the other hand since not using a tape is standard, they don't have to explicitly tell you they haven't used it.
Of course, if in doubt you can always ask them what they did, as well as to prove they have an unexpired and unrevoked honemeister license

Just one small point: if it has been honed with tape then you need a *minimum* of that amount of tape when touching up. In fact, you can touch up with less tape than the original honing used, but it takes a while and you might not have gotten there before you actually stop.

I would also like to add that ideally you would use exactly the same amount of tape as was originally used to create the edge. This would be the most efficient way to touch up. So if you know it, use it.
