Thanked: 0Honing: pyramid method or not.
I have a quick question. I know after you set the bevel on a dull razor, they tell you to do the pyramid method using the 4000 grit stone and the 8000 grit stone. Staring off at 25 strokes for the 4000 and 25 strokes on the 8000 with less strokes untill finished. My question is if you have a razor that is starting to become uncomfortable to shave with do you have to start all the way at the top which would be 25 strokes along with another 25 strokes on the 8000 grit stone? Or will doing this actually overhone your razor? I do have a 12000 grit stone if that makes any difference.

Thanked: 4942For refreshes, I normally tell people to try 3-3, 1-3, 1-5 and then 10 on the 12K, paste/spray 10 strokes and then 60 on the leather strop. Nothing wrong with trying just the 1-3, 1-5 and then paste as well.
By the way, after bevel setting I would normally start at 15 vs. 25. Less is usually better when honing.
Have fun,
Lynn
