Practice Razor for honing?
Since I'm new to the straight razor, I think it would be a good idea to get a cheap razor (ebay?) just to practice honing before I try honing my good razor.
Would the really cheap razors available on ebay be good for this or are they so lousy that I need to invest in a 'good' cheap razor for practice? If so, which razor would be good?

Any razor with functional scales will do. Even the Pakistani... Practice on the "practice" razor is good idea, to prevent mishaps on the nice blade.
have fun,

Or you could get a less well-known antique on e-bay, that's in a good shape. I know it seems that I'm advertising for Tony (portal5 on e-bay) but I really got an amazing deal from him and I'm hoping you'll come across something like that too. The reason I'm making this recommendation is b/c you actually have a chance of turning it into a good shaver while you learn. The Pakistani will NEVER serve that purpose and it will cost about the same.
Edit: The Tony I'm talking about ISN'T our Tony Miller. He's a great seller, but it would be a crying shame to use any of his stuff on rookie practice. Like chugging good French wine or grinding up tenderloin for burgers.Last edited by FiReSTaRT; 05-02-2006 at 03:50 AM.
