I wouldn't feel comfortable with one less then 150 X 40mm. YMMV
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I think I might be a little in the minority here (gee, what a surprise) but I've always wanted a small coticule, like 2 inch x 2 inch for travel, but also because I think the compact size creates a more disciplined stroke with a more accurate and concise stroke pattern.
Last thing I want from a hone is enough room to let the blade build up speed. It doesn't need to be a runway.

Thanked: 1212That's about my preferred dimensions for a Coticule.
My first one was a combo 90mm X 140mm. I bought it that wide because I was unaware of the X-stroke. I sold later it and bought a longer and smaller stone. A "bout" of 35mm X 200mm. Much better. A "Bout" is a irregularly shaped Coticule. They are a bit cheaper, because they are not as popular. On the other hand, if you contact Ardennes Coticule, and you ask them to pick a bout for you, they have a far greater pond of stones, to choose just the right one for razors.
Best regards,
Bart.
