Thanked: 62Pasted strop after Norton 8k
Would stropping on the back of a Filly strop which comes
pasted with Chrome Ox be a good finisher after a Norton 8k? I also have Thiers Issard white paste I could puton the smooth side of the Filly. Would that be better? Or should I save up and get a finer stone for finishing?

Thanked: 13245I am going to word this very carefully..
Using CrOx .50 after a Norton 8k is about perfect...
Other than that statement, I can't answer as I have only seen one Filly strop and have never used one...

I received the Filly with its green pasted back. The back seemed kinda rough for stropping so I only ever did a few passes. Now I use the front with green paste.

Thanked: 13245There is no comparison available between Pastes and Stones, any pastes, and any stones...
You can use a lightly pasted CrOx strop after any stone and get a different feel ...
Whether that feel is better or worse is in the "Eye of the Bladewielder" (slight pun there)...
Many people try and compare grit ratings, but honestly you can't even nail down the effect from the same paste but used on different materials...
CrOx has a different effect when used on Felt, Linen, Leather, or Balsa, each medium imparts a different finish..

This is how I use my Filly Strop
After every 3 shaves, I'll strop on the back (pasted side) of the Filly strop about 25-30 full times. Then back on the regular side (leather only) of the strop. My razor is smooth and sharp and shaves wonderfully. I really like my Filly strop too!
Btw after you hone, then it's great to strop on the pasted side the same number of times and then strop on the main side. Sometimes I won't strop right after I hone but it's probably just cuz I'm weird
