    Question Coticule slurry

    Howdy all,

I recently purchased a coti combo stone and have just started to play around and test the stone.

While playing around with the slurry an interesting thought came to my head.
"What if i were to use the bbw slurry stone to make slurry on my coti side?"

Now im not sure if anyone has done this before so i didnt give it a try yet. But would it not be like a japanese stone where differnt grit naguras are used to create a slurry and thus increase performance of the stone?

Its an interesting thought to me and was just wondering if any of our more experienced members have played around with this thought?

Looking forward to hearing what you all may have to say about this idea.

Just out of curiosity, why? With a slurry it would cut more quickly, but blues tend to be much slower cutters than coticules, so it would probably be faster to use a coticule slurry on the coticule, or even a coticule slurry on the BBW side.

I never mix the stones to make slurry, but I'm sure some do.
In the case of using a BBW slurry stone on a Coticule, you're just contaminating the Coticule with a coarser grit. As both these stones contain garnets, it probably wouldn't do as much harm as with some. The garnets are larger in the BBW though. Due to the shape of them, they don't cut as deep as a similarly rated stone of another origin would.

I see what you mean about just using regular slurry.

But i was thinking more about if someone dindt have a combo stone but the slurry stone was. That way they could have the benefit of a lower grit hone without having to purchase one.

Or would it just work out to the same whether it is a bbw or coti as the slurry maker?

I know this doesnt really answer your why question, but this was just a random thought in my head that i wanted to share and see others opinions on

We had member by Name Bart.
he has done everything possible out there to the coticules. you can search for his posts and i am sure you will get a lot information.
Now The idea to replace whole stone with just slurry stone has been tested too.
that test has been done 1000 years back by Japanese sharpeners.
i do have somewhere video or the thread about.
using just 1 fine stone but many different slurry stone to sharpen the blade.
it should be somewhere in honing sub folders.
if i find i will post the link.hope this helps.
