Your pictures don't show your fingers as "raisined" as mine get. I always feel like I just got out of the bath tub when I'm in the middle of honing.

It's actually a 15 degree wedge shaped flap. Perfect for holding a razor and sliding around on a stone.

That's hysterical Stu. As a former general veterinary practitioner I never considered this in the list of differential diagnoses for focal alopecia. Hope I didn't misdiagnose any honer's cat
