Thanked: 1happy birthday to me, or what to do with a coticule
i am pretty positive the wife got me a nice yellow coticule for my birthday tomorrow. I am not completely sure hwo it should fit into my honing regiment and have a few questions.
1) when to move from the 8k norton to the coticule? should i keep on the norton till it passes the HHT or can i move to the coticule a bit before that
2) do i need to work up a slurry on the coticule before i start honing with it?
3) any tests (besides shaving) to know when to be done with the coticule?
4) can I or should i use a pasted strop after the coticule? if so should it be 1.0, 0.5 or 0.25 micron? with that question what micron size would be actually courser than the coticule?

coticule...Lynn finishes his blades on a coticule....so that should be an answer.
Slurry....YES
tests....I don't know....I don't do any before working on it.
Pasted strop...not neccesary...I don't need one....but then again...I'm not a true Honemeister.....just someone with the posting title.
man.....I use a lot of periods when typing.

Technically, the yellow is supposedly rated at 8K though most here will tell you the action is closer to a 12K.
If I'm refreshing a razor I'll skip the Norton 8K and just use the yellow. Actually these days if the razor needs a little more I'll use the blue Belgian. After the yellow you shouldn't need a pasted strop. The edge produced by the yellow is second to none. Just use the plain leather to dress the edge.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero
