Of the hones you listed, I would only consider the coticule and the C12k as finishers. I preferred the edges from my C12k over my coticule.

Plenty of guys used to stop at the 8K Norton. Our search for "better" edges have meant that a finisher is generally 12k & above. I have no experience of the Arkansas hones to know if any of them count.

Controversial stuff there! I liked the edges that both of my examples of those gave, but generally preferred the coticule.

I found the edges from my vintage thuringians to be a little smoother than the coticule.

Right now I generally finish on a 16k Shapton. I find the Shaptons, though more stone than an amateur really needs, takes a lot of the skill factor out. They are a really user friendly tool.

Yea, I guess I should have elaborated a bit. Naniwa 5k, naniwa 8k, norton 8k, bbw, DT, etc all give nice shaves, but I don't call them finishers. I consider finishers to be hones that are around the 10k range or finer.

My preference for my C12k over my coti may be unusual, but I would hope no one would consider it controversial. It's just my thoughts on one specific example of each type of hone.

FWIW, I find my Thurry to be both sharper and smoother than my Coti.
