Yes, you can set a bevel on a Coticule, but it takes some time, and it depends on the Coticule.

As previously stated, by all means, use a 1k...You'll be glad you did....

It seems you are getting all kinds of answers on all the different forums...

My suggestion is decide which direction you want to go and stick with it...
all you are doing is getting a ton of mis-information from a ton of amateurs on other forums, that don't even hone their own razors...

Getting a Friodur sharp is never a problem, the spine is not a problem, (it is actually the tang that is a problem for re-scales) the trick to the Friodur edge is getting it smooth too.... But first you need to get yours shaving then you can tweak it in on your Coticule for your face....

Tape vs No Tape is a joke, it takes all of 20 laps on a 4k stone to change that (Or the equivalent) Where your problem lies, is you have let information overload scare you on this razor...Just hone it the same as any other one you have honed in the past and get the edge shaving then work on getting it smooth after that...

Ok, that's a big razor, definitely don't start on a natural hone, matter of fact I wouldn't even start on a 4k synthetic.

Actually IIRC all Friodurs are INOX - part of their claim to fame is the cryo hardening process, although they are not the only brand to use that particular process.

BTW - I have the exact same razor. They are nice showpieces, and to the uninitiated do require a bit of experimentation on the hones to get just right.
