Thanked: 25Dishwasher
I have a Bester 1200 (among other stones) that I had propped up on an old hardcover book to dry. In the process the stone absorbed some green ink from the book's cover. I rinsed and scrubbed to no avail. Then I put the stone in the dishwasher. It came out looking like a block of pure snow.
I know the ink wouldn't have hurt the stone's performance, but appearance counts for me, and this stone has never looked better. I've read that dishwashers can be useful for getting oil out of whetstones, but I was surprised at how well it worked on ink.

Thanked: 3795I'm glad that this worked for you, but be warned that the binder of some barber hones is quite temperature sensitive. That is, your hone could melt.
You've been warned!

Yes and dishwasher detergent is some pretty heavy duty stuff with some tough chemicals in it.

Thanked: 983I don't think the wife would like it if I tried shoving a stone down her throat...
