as many know who may have read some of my posts this weekend i seemed to have hit a brick wall with my honing. Well. i finally got the "feel" back and was able to get 3 good shavers honed up. To be honest i had to break with some orthodox advice and go by "feel" a good bit of the time. I think part of that is because the razors I have been working on are old cheap 'vintage razors that might not have optimum spine and shoulder geometries for honing.
I think it is important for new people to realize that the skill of honing is not only difficult to learn, it is also easily lost with dissuse. As we progress with our honing the times between honings grow longer and we can tend to lose what we gained in our last learning session.
I think i am going to keep my eyes pealed for cheap ebay/flea market razors that I can keep my honing skill sup to snuff on when i have a good supply of razors that are shave ready

Boy have I ever noticed the same thing. It's also easy to forget the idiosyncrasies of each razor. I have jsut started keeping a Honing Journal so that I can check back in from time to time and see what each razor has been going though. I'm suyre I won't need to do this for the rest of my life, but it just seemed a good idea to be sure of what I think I remember.

Congratulations! You stuck with it, thats the hardest thing to do. I have been impressed with your willingness to continue learning and never giving up.

Pat yourself on the back, you earned it.
