    Default Alert! Dishy Diamond Hones

Just a warning as y'all shop for presents or sit in Santa's lap,

I bought (and promptly returned) a diamond hone a few weeks ago. It's a metal plate, either 6" or 8" by 2" with rounded corners (corner radius ~.25"), mounted on a wooden base with a lift-off wooden cover. Grit size appears to be around 300-400, but isn't identified. The plate is not countersunk into the base; appears to be hot-glued to it. Here's the problem: the plate is NOT FLAT. Checked it against a good straight edge and it was dished up at the ends.

I've seen this same hone at sporting good stores and kitchen stores, with different names or logos on the cover. Prices range from mid-$20s to mid-$60s. It's made in USA. So, fortunately, are some better ones.
