    Default Advice needed

I need some help. I aquired my grandfathers straight razor, it is a Bismark Razor Works, Solingen Germany. It had a pretty bad frown so I used my DMT D8C to hone it out. I than worked to set the bevel on my Norton 1k. I stayed on this till it would easily shave arm hair all along the blade. I than went to my Norton 4k/8k for a pyramid starting at ten strokes. After that I test shaved and it was not bad at all, so I moved to my Naniwa 12k for ten laps and tested, better than the 8k edge but not quite there yet so I did 10 more laps, it was the same. I tried this a few more times, I even tried a pyramid with my 8k and 12k today and just can't seem to get any improvemens. I'm not really getting frustrated, just figure it's part of the learning process. Anyway any advice? The stones already mentioned is what I have.

If I'm not mistaken, a 4/8k pyramid starting with 10 strokes is very conservative. I think you most likely need to spend more time on the 4k before moving up. As you are finding, if you don't do the work on one hone, you won't get there on the next one up.

Why didn't I think of that?
