I lapped my Little Devil hone tonight, but didn't finish. I used 5 sheets of 320 grit (and ran out), and then three sheets of 400 grit. I finally decided I needed to go buy more 320 or probably coarser. I drew grid lines on the hone to see what was getting sanded. Does it usually take so much to get it level? I was expecting to use only a couple of each sheet.

I am putting the sandpaper on a granite tile that I ended up getting for free from Home Depot. It's a long story, but basically they don't sell those specific ones individually but had lots of them loose on hand...= free sample.

I just wanted to make sure that this didn't sound odd to be using this amount sandpaper.

    Thanks

Yes you can use up a fair amount sandpaper. I will wash it off a few times as I am lapping to get a little more use out of each sheet. The gird lines is an interesting way of checking your progress. I look at the surface to see which is making contact and any areas that are not. The edges of the hone seem to be the highest for some reason. Once they are lapped good they will stay that way for a long time.
