    Default Slurry question

I am thinking about honing with slurry made from cerium or chrome oxide. Does anyone use them like this? If yes, pros and cons?

Really depends on what kind of stone you're using--something soft or porous like a Naniwa: probably not a good idea. Something hard like a Spyderco would probably work--that's actually what Robert Williams does. Not sure if I'd make that my only honing method, though--may not work on all razors.

If you're new, I'd recommend starting w/ something like a Norton & learning how to get a good edge there before trying the more esoteric systems--that way you always have a guaranteed way to get a razor sharp no matter what.

I'm planning to use it/them on BBW and yellow coticule, would you believe it? My yellow is a very hard "individual" and I'd like to speed up things a little.

    offshoot,

Cerium & chromium oxides are much less agressive cutters than the garnets in the coti.

Do you want to use these compounds as the final finishing after you have done the main honing on the coti ?

If so give it a whirl and let us know the results

I have used these two compounds as finishers on a Spyderco UltraFine stone, and with good results.

If however, you would be using these compunds during the initial/main honing process, I am not sure of the benefit they would confer compared with using the coti/BBW in the conventional fashion.

GSSixgun & Mr Abrams have recently posted two (2) videos showing the 'one stone hone', which will give you some ideas.

    Good luck !

    Have fun !

    Best regards

That's what I'm considering here. I like to add, that cerium oxide would be 3 micron powder.

I keep on bumping into that UF after every corner. I just might buy it some day...

Just the opposite. It was too easy peasy... like some clown would express it. But, young man, it's in the challenge...
