Thanked: 0Refreshing an edge
Have a dovo full hollow that needs to be refreshed. Start with a small norton pyramid on the 4/8 k and then to the 12k chinese or be less aggressive and do a couple of passes on the 8k and then 12k? Razor still shaves, just is not as sharp as it used to be. any suggestions or wisdom would be appreciated. Thanks

Thanked: 4942I normally try 10 light X strokes on .5 diamond spray or CrOX on felt first followed by 50-60 strokes on leather and see if that refreshes the razor. If not, then 10 light X strokes on a finishing stone followed by the diamond or CrOx and leather. If not, 5-10 on the 8K and then the finisher and paste or spray. If not, re-hone from the 4K up.
Have fun,
Lynn

shortmoneyshave,
+1 on Mr Abrams' advice.
I have found that little & often has given me the best results.
As a very general rule, I will give the edge 10 laps on a CrOx pasted hard leather paddle after seven (7) shaves.
After twenty-eight (28) shaves, the blade gets 20 laps on a 12k Naniwa.
Variables such as the grind and steel hardness play a part, so the above is varied according to need.
Being a sad bastard, I keep a shaving log for each blade I use
This has worked very well for me, but as usual with things shaving, YMMV.
Have fun !
Best regards
Russ
