I have a DOVO razor that does not have a very good bevel, but I went ahead and honed it on the 4000k/8000k anyway. Now I want to create a better bevel than before, but I don't really know if I should go right from a 8000k hone all the way down to a 220k/1000k norton. If I dehoned from a 8000k to a 220k would this damage the edge? Or can I just start setting the bevel on the 1000k without dehonning?

I'd go back to 1000, not 220, and wouldn't call it dehoning, just starting over. I've done it a couple times.

Yep you're starting again. I agree the 1K is fastest but you can also use the 4K to set the bevel it will just take longer. From there you can go to the 8K and from there whatever finisher you use.

220 is really a grit for edge restoration where there is obvious damage & yes the edge will be pretty rough at that point. 1k is probably the best starting point for what you have in mind.

FYI, the grits for the hones you mentioned are 220, 1000, 4000, and 8000. The latter three are abbreviated 1k, 4k, and 8k.
