Cool Fine metalic hairs when honing.

I took my good out of the box Dovo Inox yesterday and decided to give it a few passes on my 8K Norton and 16K shapton glass.

I noticed after a couple passes on the shapton some fine metalic hairs. Is this a sign that I am doing something wrong? Or just normal? I was giving only about 10 X strokes on each stone with only the weight of the razor.

Has anyone else ever noticed this?

    Thanks,
    Jeff.

I have never experienced this and cannot explain it other than to speculate that you might be removing a burr from the edge; but what you have described does not seem likely to have caused a burr in the first place.

    I have no clue.

Could it be overhoning? When I first started honing I noticed something like that and when I inspected the edge under magnification I discovered I wired the edge.I thought more was better but found out there is a limit.

    Cool

I used electric tape for the touch-up, so perhaps that has something to do with it.

    It is shaving pretty good.

HMMMM!! Spooky. That would scare the heck out of me to see wire hairs come off one of my good razor.I guess if it still shaves well,no harm no foul.Maybe it could be from you taping the spine. It changes the angle of the bevel and could of taken off the finer edge and creating a new edge.

Are you sure they are wire hairs and not something else? How did you identify them?
