    Cool Success at last

Tried sharpening an Ebay razor with out much luck over the past week, when I made it in to the chat room Sunday night and chatted with Xman for awhile. I then went back to the hone and did an up and down pyramid and then back to the pasted strop and still couldn’t get it to pass a hanging hair test. Frustrated at this point I pulled out my new TI and checked it brand new and it didn’t pass the hanging hair test so I did a 1/5 lap on the Norton and then went to the pasted strop when I finished I actual had a razor that passed a hanging hair test. With some new confidence I took the Ebay razor back to the Norton and with a little pressure for two laps on the 4000 and two laps with no pressure followed by five on the 8000 and then back to the pasted strop to great exclamation it pasted the hanging hair test this time. I haven’t had enough time this week to work in a straight shave will probably be Saturday before I will be able to give it a try but looking forward (after several shaves from the razor I bought from Bill) to shaving with one that I was able to sharpen my self. Thanks for the help Xman

Way to go. I'm dealing with a difficult challenge as we speak. Not only is it curved, but it's a wedge. So you're not the only guy cussing and swearing over the Norton lol.

P.S. X helped me A LOT with my first blade. Since then I never had any issues with honing hollow grounds. Thanks X lol

    Default Update

Saturday tried the Ebay Watco razor I was able to get an ok with the grain pass but it’s not ready for an against the grain pass just not sharp enough yet. Sunday I tried the new TI that I sharpened and got a great shave out of it so I’m thinking that eventually I should be able to get it to the point I can shave with it.

Patience is a virtue...and one that is hard won. You're starting to sound like Vlad when he started out. As I recall when he was honing his first, the approach was 'I'm either going to get it sharp...or hone it to a nub'. Obviously, the process did not get the best of Vlad. I wish you the same luck with your Walker.
