    Default Koenig Hone Questions

    Hello all,
    Great site, truly a wealth of information. Am new to straight razor shaving. Have a couple of old razors that belonged to my grandfather and started shaving with them. Started off great, and then it started getting painful. I relies that I had to use a strop and hone to keep the blades in working order, so being new to the game I went straight to the hone. Managed to screw it up completely; I was drawing the blade across the stone with the edge trailing as I thought that this produced a better edge. Having found your site I now the correct method. The blades are a lot sharper and the shave itself far more comfortable that when I first started. It is amazing how diagrams make sense. My question/s is/are this;

    The hone that I have been using is called a ‘Koenig Hone’ made by Norton Abrasives. It is pinkish in colour and has the following words stamped into a recess; ‘Pike Koenig’. Does anyone know what size particles the grit is composed of in this stone? Is it an appropriate hone given the advances in this area? (The hone itself seems to be in perfect order, no cracks nicks etc). Is this a suitable hone for the purpose? Any information that anyone is willing to share would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Peter
