    Default Have you seen this?

I'm looking for my first honing kit and ran across this:

    Gift Sets & Gift Ideas

From my limited experience, this would be perfect - or am I missing something?

Very good set, all the four basic stone grits you will need to get started, .22K/1k---4k/8k, the other you can easily make yourself to start, balsa wood strop, diamond slurry strops[ .5uM AND .25uM, only if you think you might need them, of course] or yes and a LOT of elbow grease. In other words, practice, practice, practice!!

Thats the way of if in MY IMHO.

Thanks for reading this and have a great New Year!!

    Sincerely tinkersd of SRP

I absoloutely agree with Jimmy - the full Norton kit will serve you better. And if you wanted to add in a strop and paste, you would probably be just a hair over the price of the kit at Classic and be getting much more for the money.

    +1 with Jimmy.
You can make a bench strop easy for a few bucks, all you need is the wood, some leather and gorilla glue.

I also second the Norton set! Then for a strop, you can get a basic SRD latigo or a RupRazor Filly or something like it.

    Default norton set

another +1 for Jimmy -- if you can't set the bevel you can't hone the razor, you need that 1k to get a good bevel.
Don't get hung up on hanging hairs.

Thank you everyone for your input. I'll definitely go with the Norton!
