Thanked: 0Nicks on round point blades
Sometimes, when honing one of my round points, I seem to cause an area of minute nicks right about the point where the blade rounds. Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong? Is there a way to smooth these after they happen without ruining the blade or re-honing all over again?
Thanks

Welcome to SRP. Are the nicks in the area of the point that makes skin/whisker contact or past there ? I've seen that on round points that I've picked up used and ignored them if they didn't bother the shave. Lot of info on honing in the SRP Wiki here but I don't think there is anything that addresses that specifically. If I have micro chips I usually hone them out with circles on a 1k or 4k depending on the chips. Talking about chips that you need magnification to see.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanks for responding!
The nicks/chips seem to be right at the apex of the turn. They are hard to see, but I can feel them on my thumbnail if I turn the blade up a little. I'm assuming that if I use more of the point as I try shave two hollows on my throat, that the nicks will come into contact with the skin and whiskers, but perhaps not. I have been using a Super Punjab on both sides followed by No. 00 Frictionite also on both sides to smooth them out.

Well on the hollows on my throat, a problem area for me, I flatten them out by pulling the skin to the side when I shave there. So I don't use the point of the razor to deal with that. As for getting the chips out, I wouldn't bother if it isn't interfering with the shave. For me it is more work than it is worth to hone out microscopic chips in an area that has no contact. Just IMHO.
