    Default How to hone?

Thanks for all the advice Lynn. I may use your services in the near future.
On the matter of DIY honing, I was carefully studying my DOVO in relation to edge angle and spine. It seems to me that there is a triangle relationship between the edge, the spine, and the stone. I'm wondering if the correct way to hone is to lay the blade on the stone with light contact of both the spine and the edge. With very little pressure, carefully glide the blade along the lenght of the (8K) stone. Am I close or way off?

I'm looking to hone my own if I can.

    Thanks,
    Ron

That is the basic idea. You many want to do some research on "honing" or PM Lynn directly, he may not see your question.

You can PM me as well if your just interested in some basics.

    Thumbs up Norton 4k/8k

Try howardschechter@hotmail.com - forget his web site - says he knows Lynn - cost is $62.00 plus $18.00 shipping plus a $3. paypal fee if that's what you use.

Marine~ this is like asking the General to explain what a gun is. You can't bang around this forum for 10 minutes without colliding into a 4/8K Pyramid somewhere!

Its a honing process using a set number of strokes on 4K followed by a set number on 8K. Its usually written 1/5 for one stroke on 4K followed by 5 strokes on 8K. This is usually repeated several times with testing of some sort at each step. The steps change in ratio to create a pyramid. Like:

    3/1
    3/1
    1/3
    1/3
    1/3
    1/5
    1/5
    1/10

    Subhasis,

Why don't you simply read the FAQ first? Frequently Asked Questions - Straight Razor Place Wiki. There are references to a whole number of extensive articles on the subject matter.

And the short answer is, there is no short answer. Besides which, we do not give prices estimates, as you've been told several times before.

    Regards,
    Robin
