Thanked: 1an observation on the HHT
I've been really fighting to get my razors to pass the HHT of of the hones. I have had very little success in doing so the last few month. so today, just for grins i plucked a hair and grabbed a new DE blade (generic) to see if the DE blade passed it with my hair. Alas it did not. So either straights are supposed to be a lot sharper than new cheap DE blades, or some of my hairs are to fine to use as a guage.

Thanked: 1Trapper, I never get my razors to pass the HHT, I just never worry about it. I think maybe my hairs too fine? Anyway, I hone, I test with my thumb nail, when I'm satisfied, I test on my arm, when that's good, I test shave. It either shaves, or gets set aside for more honing. My final test is shaving, more often then not, they shave great.

I believe there is some difference in the dynamic of the DE edge and the straight, but I'm no expert there. Some points on the HHT:
1. Clean, dry hairs.
2. Root end out from your fingers.
3. Coarser should give more dynamic responses.
And as always GO SLOW. I couldn't get my razors to pass the HHT off the hone for some time and relied on more work on 0.5ยต paste. I'm getting much better responses now, a year later and must be more careful not to overdo the pastes as a result.
