Thanked: 13226My New "Axiom of Honing a Straight Razor"
Well not really new, I have been saying this for quite awhile in seperate parts, but the whole thing came together in a PM to a new honer today
"When Honing a Straight razor it is generally accepted that the edge will max out at between .37 - .47 Microns, depending on the steel and grind... The edge starts to cut hair at around .50 Microns during the Bevel set... About 90% of the work in honing is setting the Bevel, another 9% occurs between setting the bevel and the "Shave Ready" point and the last 1% is what everyone argues about"
Yep that about covers it

That's why it's nice to let someone else set the bevel for you, then you can polish it to suit your comfort and it is only 10% of the work
and that last 0.00003% (strapping) is nearly as important as the bevel setting as far as my face is concernedFind me on SRP's official chat in ##srp on Freenode. Link is at top of SRP's homepage
