tape ?
How much tape have you used to hone a Case red imp 132 wedge to good results?
Thanks,

It can depend on the wear of the spine and condition of the razor on how much tape a wedge needs, if any. Can you post pictures?

Most people would use one layer of electrical tape under normal circumstances .... if they used tape at all. In some cases 2, 3 or 4 layers might be used but that would be for special cases. That is my take anyway. Nick is right, post a photo of the blade for more specific input to your razor.

Thanked: 13249Couple of things even before I see the pic...
A Case 132 is not a "wedge" they are 1/4 Hollows they normally hone the exact same as their 133 brethren so 1 layer of tape if any...
Now beyond that is restoration work and yes a pic will help tons....

Only have cell phone pics available. Almost no hone wear on this one. I just am trying to keep the bevel thin. Also thought the tape helps to get a proper bevel angle. Thanks for your help and opinions.

The correct bevel angle as designed by the factory is achieved by not using any tape.
For narrow bevel you only need experienced honing that would remove only the minimum amount of steel required to achieve an edge and no more.
Nice razor, reminds me I should take mine out for a spin

My first year honing I always used one layer. Since then I rarely use it but some guys do and there is nothing wrong with using 1 layer. Go ahead and use 1 layer and you won't have to sweat spine wear if that is your issue. Here is an archived thread I started when I first came around that goes into a few pages of opinions on the topic along with a poll.

OK I see tape is not needed and will go ahead and hone with out it.
Thanks a bunch,
