I took a look at the price also, and now I don't mind lapping manually at all, really!!! I like it!![so to speak]

It's just a polisher. They make smaller units for table tops for a couple hundred bucks. We used to use them in the geology lab to polish rocks. You put a mat inside the "dish" and water and some alumina or cerium oxide and let it run for a day or two and your item is polished like a mirror.
