Yesterday I started over. Using the norton 1000K to make sure I had a good straight bevel. Never thought of trying to pop hairs before moving from the 1000K. But that thought made the difference. Then moving to the 4X8 Norton then yellow conticle it is finally sharp. Thanks for the help.

The real test is shaving. Yesterday morning this wedge shaved like a champ. And in the process I learned one more thing about honing a tough blade. I went back as I say above to the 1000K and kept working the blade until the bevel was completely rebuilt. From there on as I moved through the 4X8 Norton then the yellow conticle I could feel the blade changing. Finally the blade was popping those little hairs like it should. I think the key point for me was not moving too quickly from one grit to another until it seemed I had gotten all I could from one grit. Thanks for those who responded. It helped.
