Default Tough one with worn spine

I picked this razor up a while ago. I gave it a good cleaning but no super duper polish. A few days ago I started honing this razor with two pieces of tape. The edge was ok but there actually was no bevel that I could see even under a scope.
I started on the 1k with light circles and x strokes. I cannot even begin to tell you how many I did. I lapped the hone half way through and just continued with the little circles and x strokes. After what seemd like hours and hours it appeared to start to develop a bevel. I have to say I was just at the point of sending it out when it started to sound different as it traveled across the hone. I took a look and could see a bevel had finally set in. As always, I tried the arm hair. No good, back to the hone. I worked on it a little more this after noon and soon enough it started to shave the arm hair easily.
I then went to 4/8K progression and then a few laps on the Naniwa 12K. The bevel now reflects light and I am looking forward to shaving with this one tonight.

Yesterday I shaved with a razor freshly honed by Max so I have a good comparison. It is funny how the bevel follows the wear on the spine.

    Enjoy the evening!!

I tried to capture the reflection of the bevel.

    Nice job!

This is all part of the fun of honing...! Don't be afraid to use a bit of pressure during the initial bevel set, that can really help speed things up. Then reduce the pressure as the edge develops until your last 10 strikes are using almost no pressure. Then move in to the next stone.

    So how does she shave?

Yup, and that's always the case. Congrats on your persistence.

The shave today was a little rough. I think it needs more time on the hones. I'm not sure if it needs more 1K or 4/8K. I'll keep working on it.

If the shave was rough, than I would say that the minimum you need is 8k or 4k.
