Thanked: 1Thanks for the reply BigJim. I did grid lap each hone. I actually lapped the 4k several times prior to using, so I don't think that was an issue. I've got to be doing something wrong, so I'll try again tonight. If I can't figure out what I'm doing, I'll try and post some pictures.

I have a NOS Clover that is just a bit warped. There is no spine wear at all. The first time I set it on the hone I noticed that one side of the spine didn't make full contact with the hone so further inspection by laying the spine on a flat surface and looking under it revealed the problem.
One side is high in the center of the spine, the other is high on the toe and the heel. Just a bit. The edge on both sides will lay on the hone evenly so a little extra care when honing this razor is needed. I'm aware of this when I hone it and it's a fine shaver.
My guess is that in 50 years I'll have that spine pretty much flat. I know in 50 years I'll be pretty much flat so we'll be even.

Make sure the hone is flat.

Thanked: 1Thanks everyone for the replies. It wasn't the razor. Just my technique.

Thanked: 1I wasn't holding the edge of the blade flat on the hone. I started using two hands to make sure I had even pressure across the blade, and everything started working better.
