Progression ????
Can I go from a chosera 1k to a bbw/coticule combo? I've been trying to set a bevel on a factory dull blade (100% unsharpened) w/ my coti and it's just a mess...
Thanks all

Thanked: 3795Yes. If you have a 1k hone, then it seems rather pointless to use a coticule for that purpose.

Thanked: 13245I just did a vid of just that but haven't had time to upload it yet... Check Youtube under gssixgun and watch the 1 stone honing using the Chinese stone, same thing different stone... You don't need to use the BBW side... you can go from the Chosera 1k straight to the Coticule just like I go straight to the Chinese in that video...

Thanks everyone, I don't have any stone other than a coticule I was sort of trying to decide where to go from here. Thinking I'll pick up the chosera 1k and a naniwa 12k... Thanks Again

Thanked: 3795It depends on how minimalist you wish to go, but you can get a perfectly good shave off of a coticule, so you don't NEED 12k, but they are very nice.

You really need to watch gssixguns videos for sure, lots of great info in all of them.
I'm going a similar route, buying a Chosera 1k, LPB Coticule, and a Shapton 16k.

Thanked: 0I go from 1k Arashiyama or GS to coticule all the time. However, you don't 'need' the 1k stone. The Coticule is more than capable of setting a bevel.

I had a La Verte once (the green specimen with brown dots), and it was so slow, that you would grow old while setting the bevel. Yes, you can set a bevel, but if you have to do major work, than it is tedious work. My chosera is at least 2-3 times faster than my fastest coti I have tried (out of 5), and bigger too IMO a 1k can come handy, but after it a coti is really enough if you want to go cheap.
