I recently took to my norton 4/8 again, in an attempt to at least get a shaveable edge from two blades. After 10 minutes of drudgery, I began thinking about the yellow coticule method of forming a heavy slurry and slowly diluting it.

I abruptly began forming a rather thick concoction of mustard on my 8k, and took the edge to it. 5 laps later, it was turning gray. Had I struck gold? I diluted a bit, continued, diluted, continued, and so on until I was honing on water again. Failed the HHT, but I still knew to try the actual shave test. Took my recently purchased Frank Revitt smiling french-point Sheffield out and drew up another slurry. Same pattern, started to turn gray rather quickly, and I diluted the through the entire process until I was honing on water. Bevel perfect (up to 30x magnification, that is), and shaving arm hair considerably well.

Enthused, I used both razors the next day on a test shave and got quite a comfortable shave. Not quite up to par with my Dovo or Boker, but those were finished on a PHIG using nothing more than the multiplicative values of Patience.

Wondering if anyone else had tried creating a heavy slurry on the Norton 8k and succeeded in any way?
