    Default hanging moustache test

Hello! I'm trying to learn how to hone straight razors. Now, I've tried the hanging hair test but fail. I read somewhere that not all hairs are ideal for this . I took one hair off my precious moustache and did the test with that one, and it worked perfectly fine.

Now to the question: Would you consider the hanging moustache enough to know the bevel is sharp enough?

    Best regards

you would have to send me some of your moustache hairs so I could test with some sharp bevels. otherwise I can only speculate

As long as it cuts the moustache hair while it's hanging off your face... I'd say your good to go.

I tried the HTT (the hanging tongue test) accidentally once and it worked great, unfortunately. Styptic pencil tastes lousy.

I personally use the arm hair test if I'm just checking the bevel set. But if it'll trim a moustache hair I'd say you're well on your way

Everyone's hair is different. You'll have to try it with different razors of known sharpness and make comparisons to find out.

I did get a razor honed by a guy who seemed quite good at what he's doing (thanks again, @Birnando), including microfilms of the edge. I could not perform hanging hair test on that one. Maybe that's enough of an answer...

It shaves well now, but I'm certain it can shave better. Back to practicing and trying different things I guess
