I usually use the arm hair test when honing, but sometimes I will use the HHT. For my HHT I pluck out a bristle from the 4-5$ badger brush I bought from the local x-mart. Most of the time I can get a nice thick piece that behaves well on the HHT.

Thanked: 1195Just be careful with the HMHT (Hanging Moustache Hair Test) - you may find your precious lip hair has disappeared all together in a scramble to test shave more razors.....

-Ah! Now I see the missing "hair" in the title. Anyways, I was totally serious about the question if using a moustache hair (I've got a rather long walruss
'tache so the hairs are in perfect length for the test) instead of a hair when trying to find out the sharpness of the shaving contraption. I am, as stated, new to this. Anyway, I did manage to do the hanging hair test successfully, so I guess the matter is a bit solved.
About the humour, I am not stern, I have a level of equally low humour or even worse. Was just a bit frustrated with not knowing what I was doing (as I still don't but now at least I managed to split a hanging hair, which I guess means my razor is at least quite fit for shaving with).
cheers

Thanked: 4942If this is all you rely on, you may be disappointed. As previously advised, sometimes a razor will not provide a comfortable shave even though it passed a hair test. Sometimes you get a great shave with a razor that will not pass a hair test. You could find yourself doing a lot of extra honing if you simply rely on the hair testing.
Have fun.

Completely agree! I had to do some edge repair to an old wedge I had on a 325 DMT. After seeing all the HHT controversy I did some testing.
After the DMT the blade passed the HHT but you couldn't have paid me to shave with it!
Then it wouldn't pass as I went up the hones from 1k to 8k and my finisher, only passing again after a good stropping.
The HHT really isn't a good test for shave readiness. The only real test is that shave test.
All the others are useful as you progress through the honing cycle but will only start to tell you anything with some experience. So, how much arm hair can I shave at this point? How does the TNT and TPT feel here?
You only get to know this after you've honed a few blades IMO, and I don't think you can use just one test in isolation. You have to use a load of different methods as you go.
All part of the fun!

Just trying to figure out. The razor was quite good even before I started with the rozsutec, but I wanted to see how great it can get... Now I had a very close shave, closest I had I believe.
Cheers
