Well, honing a SS blade can be frustrating at times, but it's really not much different. In my hands, synthetics are easier than naturals for honing SS razors, so you should be ok. If you'd like, you can send it to me, and I'll bring it back up to shave ready. Otherwise, we can work through some tips and tricks for you.

    Couple of questions:
Do you hone other razors successfully?
Was it honed with tape before you got it?
Are you confident the bevel is set well?

knowing this can give us a better frame of reference from which to offer advice

    Cheers,

    Paul

IME its best to get a cheap vintage from ebay or an antiques market to learn honing with, so yes send it off but get one to perfect your honing skills on.

If it was sharp when you got it, then what did you do the first time you tried to sharpen it?

Did you do about 5 light strokes on the Naniwa 12k like you should have for a touch up, or did you do something more aggressive? Please describe in detail what you have done to try to touch up this razor.

    dlp40cal,

I use the 1, 3, 8 & 12 k Naniwa SuperStones to hone my Dovo 41 & 105 blades, and they respond superbly to this progression.

I have found the Dovo 41 & 105 blades to be excellent shavers

Please have a peek at the most excellent video tutorials by GSSixgun :

I always find these a great source of inspiration when my honing goes a bit awry !

    Good luck !

    Best regards

    Russ
