Well, honing a SS blade can be frustrating at times, but it's really not much different. In my hands, synthetics are easier than naturals for honing SS razors, so you should be ok. If you'd like, you can send it to me, and I'll bring it back up to shave ready. Otherwise, we can work through some tips and tricks for you.
Couple of questions:
Do you hone other razors successfully?
Was it honed with tape before you got it?
Are you confident the bevel is set well?
knowing this can give us a better frame of reference from which to offer advice
Cheers,

IME its best to get a cheap vintage from ebay or an antiques market to learn honing with, so yes send it off but get one to perfect your honing skills on.

Thanked: 3795If it was sharp when you got it, then what did you do the first time you tried to sharpen it?
Did you do about 5 light strokes on the Naniwa 12k like you should have for a touch up, or did you do something more aggressive? Please describe in detail what you have done to try to touch up this razor.

dlp40cal,
I use the 1, 3, 8 & 12 k Naniwa SuperStones to hone my Dovo 41 & 105 blades, and they respond superbly to this progression.
I have found the Dovo 41 & 105 blades to be excellent shavers

I always find these a great source of inspiration when my honing goes a bit awry !
Good luck !
Best regards

Thanked: 3795Everything you wrote is right, but it doesn't apply for this guy's razor, because an already sharp razor that needs a touch up does not need this progression,

But, Utopian, is his razor still sharp?
Usually if I am presented a razor that I am supposed to sharpen, I assume the worst.
I reset the bevel on every razor that is not my own. You never know what damage he induced by sharpening it the wrong way
Anyway, to the OP:
Send your razor out to be honed. Do not experiment with your only razor.
Buy a cheap, yet reliable razor to learn sharpening on

Thanked: 3795He did not mention any damage, so I had no reason to assume that he was correctly anything but a slightly dulled blade. For that reason, a bevel re-set, or anything below the 12k, should have been unnecessary until or unless he harmed the blade during honing. The odds of that harm increased the lower he went with the hones.
