Thanked: 2HHT exports please.
Ok, as you can see I'm a new member, so I'll try to not make this long winded. Sent my razor to Lynn himself to be set. Got it back. I'm on my 4th shave. I want my razor HHT Sharp and I have my own 4k/8k stone so to work I went. DEFEATED! I could not get it.
I'll summarize this. And I taped the spine for the honing to prevent unnecessary hone wear.
First: 100passes 8k. 100p. Linen, 100p. Leather. Razor+wet hair=nothing
Second: 100p 4k, 100p 8k. 100p linen, 100p leather. Razor+wet hair=nothing.
Third: 100p 4k, 100p 8k. 100p linen, 100p leather. Razor+wet hair=nothing
Now...I tried to cheat by turning the water on super hot and letting the hair soak that up....but that didn't work lol. Also now the razor is almost HHT Sharp in the center (I can feel it!) Now! The sides and middle are ten times sharper than they were before and even though the sides are ten times sharper than they were before.....they still aren't even close to being as Sharp as the middle. So I can already tell I have a looooot of work before its actually going to be HHT readyplease give me encouraging advice so I can feel like my three hours were not wasted :/

HHT means nothing. Judge your razor by shaving.

First off, how did it shave?
The HHT is not a predictable and reliable test for beginners in honing IMO.
Many people use them, but it has little or no value until you have it calibrated on known sources of hair.
And even then, it can be difficult to judge the shave-readiness on the razor.
If you haven't already, do a shave with it, and come back to us with the resultsBjoernar
Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

Thanked: 13249That was it, you were done right then and there.. That is way way way to much honing... everything else just continued to destroy the edge...
The edge from Lynn probably passed HHT,,, Just not yours,, you have to qualify your test before you go where you went plus the HHT really doesn't mean all that much anyway

If Lynn honed your razor, why are you honing after your 4th shave?
Do you want your razor HHT sharp or shave sharp? Note a shave ready razor will not necessarily pass the HHT.
Have you read any of the wiki?
Why did you make 100 laps on the 8K?
So many questions, but it all comes down the fact that you should have posted here before trying to hone a shave ready razor after the 4th shave. At that stage a routine stropping would have bought the edge back. Chances are it is now overhoned and needs a trip to a pro to correct.
Seems like you were so caught up on the HHT that you have gone and wrecked your edge. Many here will tell you that the HHT is a parlour trick and others will say it is meaningless unless calibrated.
EDIT - Glen you beat me to it.
SECOND EDIT - I read your response. I very much doubt you are going to take Lynn's edge to the next level, especially with an 8K Norton. I say this because I know of Lynn's wealth of knowledge and experience and I can see your lack thereof.Last edited by Scipio; 07-06-2011 at 08:06 PM.

Thanked: 13249So you want us to lie to you ????
Have you ever had an HHT work???
On what???
Why did it work???
Did you do the same thing again???
See you have to qualify the test, every single one of my edges, passes my HHT, but it doesn't mean it will pass yours, does that explain it better?????

The only razor that I've gotten to pass HHT was a razor that had an improperly set bevel. That should tell you the relevence of the HHT right there.
