I would suggest finding a mentor in your area first.
    What stones are you using?
Bevel set is entirely low grits (800-4000ish)

You never told us what stoned did you use to hone the razor.

Send it to Glen, Max or Lynn/Don at SRD. Well worth the money to have it done right. You will lose less steel then if you do it, and it will shave fantastic. Or sell it to me and I'll send it out to be honed!!!

IME Vendors on this site will do a great job and can be utterly relied upon, however, I can understand your concern.

    Hi Str8shooter,

I have no desire to sell it. How do I contact one of the above people at SRD?

I have spent the last six months learning to hone and have brought only six razors to shave ready; from various states of dullness.
    With that said:
I also own a 193 year old razor from my grandfather. I would not even consider honing it myself. I would send it out to one of the professionals on this forum, who have honed a few thousand.

If it's in as good a condition as you say, then send it out or risk ruining it. JMO

But if you decide to follow good advise, go to the vendors section and look up for those who do honing. I've razors that have been honed by Lynn (Lynn), Sham (hi_bud_gl) and Glen (gssixgun). Glen also restored two in addition to honing them.

Several others have impressive reputations and I wouldn't hesitate to put any of my blades in their hands - as a matter of fact one of my demented plans is to have razors honed by all of them.

If you are reluctant to mail your blade out, you should be frightened of taking it to a stone without knowing what you're doing. I encourage you to seriously consider having a pro evaluate and hone your razor.

    Regards,

    Marcos

I don't know. Talk of a 200 year old stub tail, we're on to the second page already and still no pics?
