Thanked: 66My first hone
My first post was only a few weeks ago http://straightrazorpalace.com/razor...tml#post816795
My Norton 4k/8k and 1.2k hones have arrived and I received my first antique razor from my sister a few days ago. I decided to forgo sending it off for it's first hone, as it was pretty darn sharp as it was.
Last night I spent several hours slowly honing away and was able to successfully shave.
Also at work we have a full metrology lab with a Clemex/Nikon microsocpe that goes up to something like 1000x
yesterday I snapped a photo at 100x and today at 500x (I should have done the same on both, but it is tricky to get the microsope settings correct. I will continue to strive for even further profection. Heck I don't even have a strop yet other than a leather belt.

Thanked: 170Wow! Those are nice pictures! It would be interesting to see what a 12K Chinese would do to the scratches that are still there. You can get a 12K china from Woodcraft for around $22. They are soft enough to cut with a hacksaw, so you can make your own slurry stone - they are plenty big enough to cut down. How does it shave?
