Thanked: 480Watch your fingers
Normally, I only hone one or two razors and my day is done.
Today, I honed 7 razors, and then went on to take the chips out of a set of wood chisels.
While doing this, I never noticed my finger tips were brushing the stone while I worked. That is, until I felt the first twangs of pain.
typing this is quite the ordeal.
yes, I have honed off my finger tips on 3 fingers.
Obviously, keeping your fingers out of a grinding wheel is common sense. Apparently, keeping them off the stones is too! (too bad I wasn't using any!)

Common sense isn't very common
Hang on and enjoy the ride...

I did that once during a very very long lapping session. It was not pleasant.

Helping a friend who was a tile setter grout joints can do it too. You get these little "strawberries" on your finger tips that are extremely painful. Well maybe not extremely but bad enough. When I saw the title of the thread I thought it would involve cutting the fingers of the stretching hand while shaving. I've done that a couple of times too.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
