Personally I see no need to ever go to 220 unless honing out a chip, but I guess we all have our methods.

Different circumstances for different razors. I think this is going off topic though. i think he is just after basic honing advice.
Agreed, however he should be aware of the different routes out there and see which one he may feel is best for him to take? you're right, every razor is different though. IMO stick with what Glens video's are saying, they've worked for many many people.

220 is faster, i got a bevel set on a razor with 5 laps, then polished up on 1k. I arrived at this after trying to work with blade weight only on 1k or 4k, it's just what works for me. setting a bevel on a 1 or 4 can be a long and tedious experience, especially on 1/4 grinds.

I have a Chosera 1k that's quite fast, so bevel setting goes fast I always use a fair bit of pressure at 1k .

I agree, I dont think you should drop below 1k unless you are doing edge repair and/or honing out chips.

The only time when you may concieveably drop below 1k is if you're setting the bevel on a monster wedge thats totally dull and you want to speed things up, but for 99% of blades a 1k is more than enough.

Thanks for all the advice fellas! I just tried the extra peice of tape on my 8k, and it turned out really good. I havent had to use the 220 yet, I have an old Joseph Rodgers I'm going to be using it on though. It needs some major repair. The 1k has been working pretty well for my bevels so far, I'll probably stick to that.
