You have reached the first plateau in the honing journey Brandon CONGRATS !!!!! you shaved with a razor you honed and it cut hair...
You will improve on honing and shaving as you go, and things will continue to get better as you tweak them in...
Stropping between passes during the shave is a personal preference there is nothing wrong with it...
Over the next few weeks just keep improving on each aspect of the shave from prep to honing to technique and you will do fine...
Don't rush it though, take your time to enjoy the journey...

It's just going to take time . Learning to shave can be difficult when you're using a razor , that you are learning to hone , at the same time . I know , because I did it , too . Your razor may not be sharpened quite up to to it's full potential , or maybe it is . You don't really know , because you don't have enough experience , to know how a razor should shave . As others have said , you should get an inexpensive , shave ready razor from the SRP classifieds , so you will know for sure , what a properly honed razor should feel like .
Greetings , from Dundalk , Maryland . The place where normal people , fear to go .

I bought a Norton 4000/8000 stone set and honed with the 4000 side for quite a while then switched and used the 8000. While I was shaving I noticed I had a little bit of pulling and final results were 5 o clock shadow with a couple, ok a few, minor nicks. So here is my question: do I rehone the razor from the beginning or should I just polish it off with the 8000 side? I apologize if this question is answered in another thread. Also, I have a canvas and leather strop set that I used before shaving.

Ok so after all the trail an error, I learned I wasn't stropping enough. So I did 30/80 canvas/leather and that seems to work out quite nice. Before I forget, I did not experience any pulling whatsoever. Now I just need to learn how to get the jaw line perfect and the odd spots around the adams apple. Any advice for perfecting the jawline, adams apple, or the go-tee? No matter how many nicks I get I'm really enjoying this. Thanks again guys.

The best hint is to find a systematic that gets a good to go first pass.
For me the first pass if done correctly leaves the edge sharp for any
minor touch up. If I get angles wrong I have to strop the edge or
    grab a second razor.

4th shave in and I'm getting the hang of my SR. I just got the smoothest shave ever today and too smooth of a shave in a couple spots. Finally figured out what technique will work for me. And I found that WTG, XTG, and ATG pretty much has me covered. I just hope if I'm ever running late for work and still need to shave that my employer will understand my reasoning... lol Thanks for everyone's help. I can't wait to pass along what I have and continue to learn. :0)
