Newspaper ink is made from oil and carbon ash. Sounds like a perfect finisher to me.

Thanked: 2209When you use edge leading on paper just go slow. It is very easy to slice the paper. Be sure to tape the spine with electrical tape when you are using the coarse sandpapers.
I would suggest trying an edge trailing stroke also just so you can compare the results. It is a bit slower but not that much.
Also be aware of the "grain" of the newspaper. Be sure to go across the grain. Tear the paper first to determine the grain.

Just test in which direction the paper tears more naturally. That's the direction of the grain.
