Thanked: 8New York members expirienced in Honing
Hi, I am going to be in NY (manhattan) for the next 3 weeks, and would love to get in touch with someone who can help me get better at honing. I am somewhat new (I can sharpen a blade if the bevel is already set but I still can't set a good bevel). I've got all the stones (1K, 3K, 8K, 12K naniwas) and have a Filarmonica in great condition but the heel is dull, so it needs a new bevel.
So if someone could get together with me and help me sharpen this blade that would be awesome. Seeing how a blade feels after each stage would help immensely.
thanks

Thanked: 6+1
I'm in sort of the same boat as Dan. I just purchased the hones I need, and can do touch ups indefinitely with them (unless the blade has a smile, in which case I have had mixed success). I have a bunch of blades which need bevel setting and would love to learn from someone. Also, I live in New York City.
Maybe we could get a little meet-up going?

There are a bunch of people in the NYC area that may be able to assist you. The have meets from time to time. Check this forum - http://straightrazorpalace.com/get-togethers-meetings/ - to find out who is in the city and then PM them. They may not see this thread but still willing to assist. If you were going to be in the Rochester NY area I would invite you over but Rochester is ~ 300 miles for NYC.
