Thanked: 69i give up......
i have a kamisori i picked up as a birthday present to myself.... i waited what seemed like an eternity for it to arrive... i hone it up and it seems sharp..... really sharp....
i use it.... and it doesn't pass the "comfortable" shave test *(for me).....
yes.... the bevel is well set.....
i have tried pyramids.... i have used the 4k8k norton followed by the phig 12k both with and without .5 micron diamond slurry.... the edge is highly polished under 100x microscope.....
i have done everything short of standing on my head while honing......
any suggestions???

Man, I hate to tell you this, but I think this is most likely a "for show" thing. Just...look at it. It looks like halfway between a disposable and a frameback...and I'll be honest, that kind of "Orientalist" dragon thing just isn't that common on Japanese things, unless they're made solely for tourists.
I've seen less likely looking blades, made by actual Japanese blacksmiths, but they had never made a razor and were just messing around.
There are so many questions I want to ask...What is that handle made of? What's the bevel angle? What steel is the blade? Who made it? Who sold it to you?
If it gives out after half your face, then I reckon it's the steel, and there's nought to be done.

I would have to agree, if the steel just ain't right you can forget it, you could hone that thing till the cows come home and still never put a sharp enough edge on it. I dont want to insult you but to me that looks like something made in China and not the real deal from Japan.

Thanked: 6910 more something elses....
1 more kamisori that shaves wonderfully but is a tad too small for my great big hands...
2 GD's that are excellent shavers *(i know this is a touchy subject/brand)
2 wade and butchers both pre 1891 that are silent whisker killers *(love em..)
1 worsty pipe razor that is just awesome....
1 ancient covered tang razor of unknown origin that i use occasionally....
a thistle cut
a mj higgins wedge.. *(love it..)
and a "sterling razor works"......
BUT the main razor in my collection is a home made wedge that i made at work *(i have made 4 or 5 but this is my favorite)
it is a full 8/8ths of fixed blade whisker machete.....
and i have one more on the table in front of me that i am still working on..... at the moment it is a fixed blade 12/8ths wedge....
there are a few more scattered about the house but these are the main ones.....
i can't wait to finish the monster 12/8ths *(to be fair it will end up ~11/8ths when completed)....
if you want photos just tell me....

yea I was gonna say something looks very wrong there with that. It looks like some Frankenrazor. Is the edge a single piece or more like some type of frameback?
