Thread: Can't get past 1k

Good point on the lapping of the two stones. Hopefully it's something simple as that.

+1 to previous responses, but I had a similar problem for a long time. Part of my problem was not getting the bevel really set and Glen (gssixgun) helped me fix that. My other problem was I think I may have been lifting the spine just a little at the very end of my "away" stroke. (I pull toward me then flip the razor on its spine and push "away"). Since I started really concentrating on keeping the spine on the stone until I finish the stroke then rolling the edge up and keeping the spine on the stone, I have gone from bevel to 4K to 8K pretty reliably. Also, I picked up Glen's swoop stroke for smiling razors and that has helped too.
